Dinka, South Sudan: The Tallest People In Africa (Photos)

The tallest group of people on Earth is not located in the US nor as generally believed to emerge from the Asia.

All you need is to travel to South Sudan then located the Dinka people. You will be amazed to meet yourself becoming a dwarf in their midst as an average number of them are taller than 6 feet height.

Check the picture below aside these two guys a closer look at the hut in the background, you will see someone in red who is watching afar off too exhibiting the same height.

The Dinka people (Dinka: Jiɛ̈ɛ̈ŋ) are a Nilotic ethnic group native to South Sudan with a sizable diaspora population abroad. The Dinka mostly live along the Nile, from Jonglei to Renk, in the region of Bahr el Ghazal, Upper Nile (two out of three Provinces which were formerly located in southern Sudan) and the Abyei Area of the Ngok Dinka in South Sudan.

They number around 4.5 million people according to the 2008 Sudan census, constituting about 18% of the population[1] of the entire country, and the largest ethnic tribe in South Sudan. Dinka, or as they refer to themselves, Muonyjang (singular) and jieng (plural), make up one of the branches of the River Lake Nilotes (mainly sedentary agripastoral peoples of the Nile Valley and African Great Lakes region who speak Nilotic languages, including the Nuer and Luo). Dinka are sometimes noted for their height. With the Tutsi of Rwanda, they are believed to be the tallest people in Africa. Roberts and Bainbridge reported the average height of 182.6 cm (5 ft 11.9 in) in a sample of 52 Dinka Agaar and 181.3 cm (5 ft 11.4 in) in 227 Dinka Ruweng measured in 1953–1954.

However, it seems the stature of today's Dinka males is lower, possibly as a consequence of undernutrition and conflicts. An anthropometric survey of Dinka men, war refugees in Ethiopia, published in 1995 found a mean height of 176.4 cm (5 ft 9.4 in). Other studies of comparative historical height data and nutrition place the Dinka as the tallest people in the world.

The Dinka people have no centralised political authority, instead comprising many independent but interlinked clans. Some of those clans traditionally provide ritual chiefs, known as the "masters of the fishing spear" or beny bith, who provide leadership for the entire people and appear to be at least in part hereditary.

Their language, called Dinka or "Thuɔŋjäŋ" (Thoŋ ë Muɔnyjäŋ), is one of the Nilotic languages of the eastern Sudanic language family. The name means "people" in the Dinka language.[citation needed] It is written using the Latin alphabet with a few additions.

The Day I Got Stranded At Lagos.

I saw an advert at Mowe about a job vacancy,i decided i was going to apply for the post of hotel receptionist with basic salary 45k and free accommodation, i was so exited when i saw the benefit attached to the job.

So I called the number and i was directed to their office, on getting to the office, the secretary told me the agent fee is 2500, without hesitating i paid the money the following day.

I was given the address and the hotel is situated at Festac, i packed few of my things and was set to go and resume work, i had to borrow tfare from my sister on that day.

To my greatest surprise I had spent almost all i have with me before getting the location, I knocked at the gate and I explain to the gateman about my mission, he told me they had employed someone about two month ago.

I felt like crying when I heard they had employed someone else, what comes to my mind is how I will get back to mowe from festac.

I had to beg for transport before I could get to mowe.

According to an eyewitness...

"We were in the office this morning when we saw a big crowd gathered outside the gate, at Atiku Abubakar Way, Uyo. We all went out to see what happened and saw the lady in the pictures crying and almost going mad.

"The story is that she went to withdraw #52,000 from Zenith Bank to pay her internship fee at Tibest Pharmacy. She boarded Keke from the bank to Itam Junction, but when they got to Atiku by Leadway Assurance, her bag was snatched and she was pushed out of the moving Keke. They also threw a dirty hand towel at her. They also tried to snatch her phone but it fortunately slipped and fell.

"This lady is almost running mad. She said she has been saving the for 3 years and has not done any good paying job for 7 years since she finished secondary school. She has been wailing and even tried commiting suicide by running into moving cars. She has been asking what she's living for"?
