THE ROOTS OF EDUCATION IS BITTER, BUT THE FRUIT IS SWEET

I have heard a lot of youths say “What is the need of been educated when after you graduate, there are no jobs?”

Some youths would even argue that why consider education when entertainment is now what everyone goes into just to get fame and wealth.

In as much as we live in a society that has no value for education, we live in a world where musicians, celebrities, entertainers, comedians are more celebrated and chosen as role models.

Apostle Paul asked in Romans 6:1 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid

I want to also asked, “Shall we continue to neglect the educational sector and end up raising a generation that have no value for education?”

Most times, when people who claim to be educated go through the four walls of a school building, I often ask them, “Did they allow the school to pass through them?
“Where you really impacted by the teachers and lecturers?’ Did they pay the price to get the knowledge, skills, wisdom and character that is required of them to get as they go through school?

“If you do, you will never cease to grow – the function of education is to teach intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of education”
From the above quote, I want to ask, “How many of our graduates produced have learnt how to use their brain to think and bring out creative ideas?” How many paid the price to be really educated?”

As a Teacher and an Enterpreneur, I have seen so many students  who will sit down to watch seasonal movies for 5 hours, yet can’t study their books for 30minutes. There are so many young people who can stay all night to watch the latest movie, yet they can’t spend just an hour to read their books.

Lots of students and undergraduates have smart phones which they use to visit social media sites and browse, chatting with friends, yet they won’t do their assignments or projects.

There are lots of students who can sing the latest song, mime all the songs of their favourite artiste, download the latest songs and videos, their lyrics and memorize them; yet they can’t even memorize a single topic in any of their subjects or courses.

“Listen, you become more of what you study and listen to ”

The more you spend your time listen to music, watching movies, chatting with friends, playing games and browsing content on the internet that have no benefit and improve your intellect. The more empty you become.

Most students and undergraduates go to school or university, sit down and listen to the lecturer or teacher, write down notes, mark attendance and yet they don’t study. They don’t even do assignments of projects.

After spending six years in secondary school and four years in the university. Most of the students and undergraduates are as empty as they came.

What every Youths and students must understand is that the roots of education are bitter – nothing good comes easy. You must make sacrifice. Those who are always on the top of their classes/department, didn’t achieve that overnight or on a platter of gold. They must have made lots of sacrifice, devoted lots of times to their studies.

You also must create time to study, do your assignments, ask questions, do research and projects, improve yourself. There is no short-cut to success. Choose not to follow the crowd who refuse to study and develop their educational roots.

“If you choose to develop the bitter roots of education, improve yourself, study, think, do your assignments, ask questions, make that sacrifice and commitment towards your education, you will surely eat the sweet fruits someday”
Let’s encourage the young generation to take education seriously. Stop following the bad wagon who says education is useless.

“What shall we pass to the next generation if not the right values of education, morals, integrity and hardwork?”

A child today is a Parent tomorrow, we must never forget to make our young people understand that the roots of education is bitter but the fruit is sweet.

“Remember that the value of education you have is directly proportional to the success you will achieve later in life”
