This is a story of a man known as Joshua, he was a Christian in a local congregation. He was very devoted and committed to the things of God. Joshua was punctual and regular to service, he was a church worker and in charge of the church instruments and maintenance.
Joshua had a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in marketing, yet he was unemployed. He had searched everywhere for a good job all to no avail. He had also submitted his CV to several companies, yet none called him for interview.
After six months of futile search for a job, he accepted to work as a cleaner for a large production firm. He had heard from God that, that was where he would be lifted and that was his dream job. “How can being a cleaner be my dream job?”
He was doubting if he was really hearing from God. Since, he had no other offer, he accepted the position of a cleaner and did it diligently. Five months later, the Chairman of the company and Director of the Branch called him to his office.
They asked him to sit down which he did. “Mr. Joshua, we have gone through your credentials and we know you shouldn’t be working here as a cleaner. You are due for promotion and we want to promote you as the Production Manager of this branch” “Thank you sir” Joshua said in excitement. The director continued, “but before we do that, you will have to falsify some documents that would be sent to our head office”. “You mean I must alter these documents before I would be promoted?” asked Joshua. “Yes, said the Chairman and you must do that now” “Please, give me some time to think about it, at least 30minutes” said Joshua as he left the office and went out to call his wife.
His wife listened to him and both of them were in a state of dilemma. “What if you don’t falsify the documents?” asked his wife. “That means I won’t be promoted and I have been praying for this promotion”. “But why this condition of altering documents” he asked looking confused.
The phone went off as his airtime was exhausted. After some minutes of thinking and meditation, he asked God for direction as he went back to the office where the Chairman and branch Director were waiting. "Have you made up your mind to alter the documents?” asked the Chairman. Joshua’s lips were heavy to speak.
At last he spoke. “Am sorry sir, I can’t falsify these documents. I can’t do anything which is against my faith. I am a Christian and I am a church worker and I know God will promote me when the time comes. You can keep your job".
Joshua said and then stood up to leave the office. When he had worked out of the door. He was called by the chairman.
“Mr. Joshua, please come in and sit down. He came in and sat down. The chairman stretched out his hand and gave him a warm handshake. “Congratulations, Mr. Joshua, you have just passed the test which others have failed”. “The company in a bid to expand, had set up a new branch and is in dire need of someone of high integrity and credibility to manage that branch. You have just proven your credibility. Every entitlements and benefits f your new position will be given to you by the Director”. Joshua was speechless, he was too excited to say a word. At last, he will be the head of a new branch, this was indeed his dream job. “Once again congratulations Mr. Joshua and we need more people like you in this company” said the director.
The lesson is clear. Like Mr. Joshua in the above story, you can stand up and be known for your integrity.
