Mr. Timothy was a man who once believed teaching was a calling… not just a job.
He wore his only two shirts with pride.
He prepared lesson notes with passion.
He taught with so much energy, students would literally stop talking just to hear him explain a concept.
Until… life started slapping him from all corners.
His rent was due.
His child was sent home from school.
His wife was falling s!ck more often — and there was never enough money for medicine.
So, he took a job in a school that promised to pay ₦30,000 per month.
Yes… ₦30,000 — to teach Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and sometimes stand in for absent teachers.
When the proprietor handed him the employment letter, he hesitated.
He wanted to walk away.
But hunger pulled him back.
He signed.
Weeks passed.
Then months.
At first, he still gave his best.
But slowly… something changed.
One Monday, he walked into the SS2 class, sighed deeply, looked around and said:
“Is it not just 30K they’re paying me? Abi una don pay for extra knowledge?”
He dropped his marker and left the board blank.
No calculations.
No formulas.
No enthusiasm.
Just pain… and quiet anger.
Sometimes he’d teach halfway and say:
“The remaining part is in the textbook… if you care.”
He didn’t care anymore — because the system didn’t care about him.
The students noticed.
A girl once cried after class and said:
“Sir, we used to love the way you taught… what happened?”
But how do you explain to a 16-year-old that you’ve taught hungry for 3 days?
That you’re teaching them physics but can’t afford paracetamol for your own headache?
How do you tell them that your love for teaching is dying — killed by p0verty and disrespect?
That day, Mr. Timothy went home, sat on the cold floor, and w€pt silently.
He wasn’t a b@d teacher.
He was just a br0ken one.
💔 This is the reality of many Nigerian teachers.
They give their all.
They pour knowledge, care, and discipline into the lives of our children…
But what do they get in return?
Peanuts.
M0ckery.
Expl0itation.
And when they break down, we blame them for "not doing enough."
