House help arraigned for allegedly stealing $1,200 from her employer in Abuja

A house help, Christabel Isaac, was arraigned before a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing her employer’s $1,200 (approximately N1.8 million).

 

The defendant, a resident of Wanba in Nasarawa State, is facing a charge of theft, to which she pleaded not guilty.

 

Prosecutor Charity Nwachukwu informed the court on Tuesday that on August 30, the complainant, Mrs. Loveth Ayoade of Efab Estate in Galadima, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station.

 

Ayoade alleged that Isaac criminally stole $1,200 from her husband’s room.

 

She said the defendant reportedly gave $800 of the money to two individuals, Michael Genesis and Rilwan Garba, both from Efab Queens Estate, to convert into naira.

 

Nwachukwu stated that during the police investigation, the defendant allegedly made a confessional statement, and N200,000 was recovered from her, adding that all efforts to recover the remaining balance have been unsuccessful.

 

Magistrate Ramilatu Halilu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until October 2, for a hearing.
